If you’ve been following this blog you know that I’m doing a challenge where I read a book a day and I’m power blogging on the topics of reading, blogging, motivation and business. So one of the things that I thought would be useful, not only to motivate me but you guys as well is how to stay motivated. Here are some of things I do to state motivated:
Have an end goal in mind
One of the things that I’ve noticed is that having an end goal in mind every time I read a book, workout, learn a new song or whatever really helps keep me motivated. It helps me know that I’m still on the right path and actually gives me a path to walk down.
I’ve noticed every time that I do something without an end goal in mind, I feel lost and tired.
So – set small goals and keep them in mind throughout the day.
Using SMART goals
Plenty of self help gurus out there condemn SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time bound). They say that great projects like going to the moon wasn’t a SMART goal because no one knew if it was even possible. – Sigh. Going to the moon is in fact a SMART goal – if you had already been sending things into space and have missiles that can hit the other side of the planet – how unrealistic is it to send a man to the moon using a modified ICBM? Its very achievable and realistic …
Anyways the fact that the goal is specific and measurable helps keep me motivate since I know at any moment if I’m still on tract. Being Relevant and achievable gives me security to know that I can finish the goal. Being time bound gives me the adrenaline rush.
so – use SMART goals
Leave negative people behind
This is something that has happened to me gradually last year and as much as I hated it I had to learn to accept it.
There is a saying “birds of a feather flock together” and the truth is I used to be a very negative and unmotivated person. This means that my group of friends from that time are very negative and unmotivated.
Yes I still care about them but spending time with them is a drag. Conversations consist of complaining over problems but if I bring up a goal, their first response is always a negative jab.
For insistence I said “I’ll read a book a day.”
response, “Yeah right! you’ll fail by the first page.”
Leave those people behind – its okay to walk alone as long as you are walking. The fact is if I still hung out with those friends Business Trek would never even exist.
Eventually the most positive and goal oriented you become the more positive and goal oriented people you will meet, because “birds of a feather flock together.”
Don’t take yourself seriously and Laugh a lot
The kung fu style I practice is famous for its five animals: Tiger, Crane, Leopard, Snake and Dragon. Each animal has a sound – however the Dragon’s sound, now keep in mind the dragon is one of the most powerful creatures in Chinese mythology, is laughter In fact that dragon is Chinese mythology is laid back and positive while powerful enough to control the fortunes of empires.
Huh! So if the strongest of the heavenly beings is optimistic and loves to laugh while not taking itself so seriously? Maybe there’s wisdom in that? – the Chinese dragon is revered for its wisdom.
So be a dragon, don’t take yourself seriously, be positive and laugh a lot.
