Rich Habits – The Daily Success Habits of Wealthy Individuals – commentary

I would love to include this book in my 2018 business trek challenge, however unfortunately it does not meet the required length that I had discussed in an earlier post: Business Trek 2018 reading challenge.

However since the book had helped shape my thinking toward business and my work ethic, I thought it would do it and you as the reader justice by giving my commentaries on this book as I have for The Charisma Myth and Zero to One.

About the Book

The Rich Habits – The Daily Success Habits of Wealthy Individuals by Thomas Corley was published on March 1, 2010 by Langdon Street Press. The book sports a manageable 94 pages.

This book is divisible into three main parts. The first part describes four people who are struggle with their careers and finances. The second part describes the benefits of the rich habits program which can be summarized in 10 key points. Corley elaborates on these habits and explains how “luck” and “law of attraction” is just a result of following good habits. The final part of the book shows how the people described earlier have implemented the rich habits program and how it has changed their lives.

The meat of the book is in the ten key points as listed:

  1. Form good daily habits and follow these habits each and every day.
  2. Set goals for each day, for each month, for each year and for the long-term; focus on goals every single day.
  3. Engage in self-improvement each and every day.
  4. Devote part of each and every day to forming lifelong relationships
  5. Live each and every day in a state of moderation
  6. Accomplish daily tasks each and every day; adopt a “DO IT NOW” mindset.
  7. Engage in rich thinking each and every day.
  8. Engage in rich thinking each and every day.
  9. Save ten percent of gross income every paycheck
  10. control thoughts and emotions each and every day.

My key takeaways from this book are:

  1. There are four types of luck, random good luck, random bad luck, good opportunity luck and bad opportunity luck. Opportunity luck, good or bad, are created by habits.
  2. The successful are slaves to good habits
  3. The ten components of Thomas Corley’s Rich habits program as listed in the section above.

This book has helped me take control of my life over the last year and thus, I’ve been meaning to share it. In fact this was the book were I got the idea to read – I believe that creating a good reading habit will prepare me for opportunities in the future, hence creating good opportunity luck.

Although, I haven’t been able to follow all ten points of the program, I’ve been doing my best and I will post summaries and commentaries on each key points at later dates, so please stay tuned.

Again if you found this post useful or enjoyable, please share and leave a like. Thank you! Also feel free to leave a comment.
